The Second Excursion!

Last night my brother, Ashley, and I were able to go out and take pictures of the rest of main campus! I really enjoyed going out with everyone (my boyfriend came too) and we got a lot of REALLY good shots. We shot from the union to the bottom of President's circle and everywhere in between. I enjoyed spending time with my brother particularly, because even though we live in the same place we don't see each other as often as I would like to! We got to see all of main campus at night, and lower campus was much more promising except for the parking lots! All of the lighting on the actual campus is at least dark sky friendly, which is a start but not an end to the mission that we are embarking on! Instead of me rambling on about these pictures how about I just show them to you? This is going to be the highlight of our website and we are also each going to add a reflection in below the gallery to add a personal aspect to this KICK ASS website we are making. I am so pleased with the process and the product that seems to be coming from this project. I can't wait until we're finished!

I really enjoy the shot above because it illustrates the dark sky "friendliness" of these fixtures, not the dark sky compliance!

Beautiful shot of Kingsbury hall! Notice how the fixture in the front of the image shines much less light upward, if any at all, than the surrounding fixtures.

These fixtures down on lower campus are supposed to be dark sky compliant, but through the camera I see some upward reflection from them...

Again, hopefully this structure doesn't shine any light upward! It isn't supposed to...

These fixtures all look dark sky compliant! All of the light is shining downward. I think the other images are shots look up at the fixtures, so that's why it seems like there is light shining upward.

These are just dumb.

Dark Sky Compliant!!!

Damn globe bulbs.

The hyper highway lit up, NOT the sky.

Beautiful, hopefully they turn it off at some point during the night...

My doggy!!

Look at all of the globe bulbs! This really isn't good for the SLC night sky! They are shining the light straight up, I really hate it!

Caught some UV in there.

I love the light streaks from the car in this picture! It looks so artsy.

The globe bulbs that are supposedly going to be replaced within the next year. I really hope that it happens! Lower campus is so much more well lit than wherever these dumb globe lamps are!

Dark sky "friendly" fixture on the right.

This picture is SO light!! I can't believe the amount of light the camera is able to capture.

The drove me crazy. This is one of those globe fixtures, and notice how the light BARELY shines down onto the ground where it is needed. There is a dark ring around the bottom where the light should shine.

Very little light in the center of President's Circle.

Dumb yellow parking lot lamps.
