NEW MAP!

Blog on my map… A while ago, we were asked to draw a map of our city. I drew a map of Park City, but soon realized that I don’t really see a lot that we could do in that space, because it is already very accessible and full of social spaces. That’s not to say that there is NOTHING to be done, but this class is about healing the Salt Lake valley, so I’d like to switch my focus there. I drew a new map (above), and added my new pinpricks of change.

I would first like to start with my most difficult pinprick to accomplish… A BIKE ROUTE DIRECTLY FROM SUGARHOUSE TO THE U. MAYBE EVEN JUST A BETTER BIKE ROUTE THROUGHOUT THE ENTIRE CITY. This, however, is not what Salt Lake City was designed for way back in the day. I believe that this kind of system could be accomplished, but it would take time, and it would certainly take energy (less than using cars though)!

This image is provided by the Boston Cyclists Union of an imagined two-way bike street in Boston. This, I believe, could be done here as well and a street that may be wble to accommodate the most construction would be foothill. It seems like bike lanes are not enough, and they are also not safe enough. I would like a specific route set up for bikes, maybe even away from cars just for everyone’s safety. Next, we need to clean up and light up our parks. Now, when I say light up, I mean add lighting for night time. When I go on a run at night in Sugarhouse Park, I want to not only be able to see my feet in front of me, but also as a woman I want to be able to see everyone in that park! This is the same for both Liberty and Fairmont, but I generally just want Fairmont to be cleaned up. The first step may be to add some light so that shady things cannot happen there! I also would like to add activities, such as the farmers market that takes place DOWN THE STREET. I don’t know of many people who know this even happens, and if it was brought to a more public place it could be wildly popular! The last park is liberty. I would LOVE for this place to have lights on at night for free. During the summer, I ALWAYS want to play volleyball until 11 o’clock at night. AND I want a more direct route to liberty from my house on a bike so now we’re back to the bike route again…

NEXT ITEM, A town car on state street! How inspired! I could take car from downtown to the one that runs up 21st south and then be less than a mile away from my home! What a concept! I also wouldn’t have to spend a ton of money on a cab, and yes kids, Ubers and Lyfts still cost a butt load of money. ALSO please excuse my language but why the FUCK does trax close at 11? What brainiac came up with that idea? Let me tell you, a dumb one. Keep the last train out until 2:15, then there are more jobs and less people trying to drive drunk, WOW THAT WAS EASY.
