Un Flâneur!

A flâneur is someone who looks at the world with gusto; Someone who appreciates anything and everything that they see. This person is the connoisseur of street, a visionary, trying to make the most out of everything he sees. For this post, we are supposed to act as a flâneur of a specific street. I chose to look at my own street. It is a very wide street, so it accommodates both bikes and cars, which I appreciate. However, this does cause drivers to move more quickly down the street. Another aspect that I enjoy is the fact that there is a sidewalk on both sides of the street. There seems to be a lot of joy on my street! It is a family oriented neighborhood, with actual little shops and restaurants on the street. The sidewalks may need some repair, I find that I trip a lot when I am walking my dog around because of uneven sidewalks. This seems like an easy fix, and if the funds needed to be raised I’m sure the neighborhood would put on a fundraiser! It definitely seems like the type of thing these people would do!
I have also noticed around my own home, a lack of lighting in Sugarhouse park near my house. I like to run in this park at night with my dog and roommate, and we ALWAYS have to wear headlamps. We do this for many safety reasons, and one of them is so that we don't trip on uneven pavement and fall down. We also feel more safe in the park with the lights, but would feel much safer if there were more street lights shining down onto the path! The entire path that we run on is not lit, and the only lights in the park are yellow, awful streetlamps, just like the ones that light up the freeway. That never actually made sense to me. Why do we have dull yellow lights lighting the freeway instead of bright LEDS that would keep the night drivers awake! Sorry for my slight tangent, but I felt it needed to be addressed. Back to the park lights, we need more lights that are brighter and light up the ground where it is needed! We could even make them solar paneled so as to not use more energy.
